FAQ

How do I purchase or schedule Coaching appointments with Dan Duncan?

Coaching Conversations with Dan Duncan are purchased and scheduled using the embedded scheduler under Option 1 of the “ADHD Coaching” tab at the top of each webpage.
If you purchase a package of 3 or 6 hours of coaching you can schedule appointments immediately after your purchase, or use your coupon code provided in your email confirmation to schedule appointments at your convenience.
Your emailed receipt will also provide a second coupon code to be used for 50% off of any pre-recorded webinar found under the “
Personal Learning” tab above. The Dip Your Toes webinar is highly recommended prior to coaching, but it is not mandatory.

How long are Coaching appointments?

Coaching Conversations are usually 45 minutes long on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and continue until the individual feels capable of self-coaching. After a few appointments, clients often reduce the duration of Coaching Conversations to 30 minutes for check-ins or for discussing very specific topics.

Does coaching work for children?

Generally, for children under the age of 12, coaching always includes at least one parent. In fact, most teens would benefit from having parents actively involved in some or all of the coaching conversations.
The younger the child is, or the less engaged they are in wanting to improve their situation, the more coaching will emphasize parenting strategies rather than strategies that the child implements for themselves.
I usually recommend parents be involved in the first one or two coaching conversations, regardless of the child’s age.

What would typical goals of Coaching be?

The most common Coaching Goals of the client, include:

  • IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY (planning, organizing, and executing plans, etc)
  • REDUCING STRESS (relationships, workload, overwhelming schedules/expectations, emotional regulation, etc);
  • SENSE OF SELF (confidence, empathy, advocacy, autonomy, etc)

Everyone has specific situations of course, but those are the three most common categories that clients initially target as areas for improvement.

Should the Personal Learning (webinars) option come before ADHD Coaching?

Any of the Personal Learning options can be experienced before or at any time during your Coaching experience.
The required 45 minute video introducing the ADHD Inside Out Framework will provide enough basic information for clients to begin working with an ADHD Inside Out Coach, but your Coach will spend more time in your conversations catching you up to speed with the Framework as time goes by.
If you want to get a better Coaching head start, the
Dip Your Toes option in the Personal Learning track will give you a much better understanding of ADHD as well as the Framework that your Coach will be working from. It’s only a 2 hour commitment and comes with reference material that will be helpful in Coaching Conversations.
You could easily view these videos without delaying your Coaching experience.

Is Coaching covered by extended health plans?

Some clients have been successful negotiating coverage with their provider based on their doctor’s recommendation for ADHD Coaching. Often coaching is only covered once other traditional forms of therapy have been unsuccessful (CBT, OT, etc)

What is the ADHD Inside Out approach for Coaching someone with ADHD?

It would be easy to conclude that ADHD Coaching is about helping someone to get rid of their ADHD symptoms; nothing could be further from the truth. Reducing ADHD symptoms is what almost everyone in the world of ADHD is already doing, and that approach won’t, can’t and shouldn’t work… as Module 1 of the Framework videos explains.
ADHD Inside Out Coaching focuses on pursuing success rather than avoiding failure. It helps a client thrive in life by leveraging personal strengths together with ADHD strengths. This requires some understanding of what those strengths are, of course.
Your Coach will help guide conversations that unveil personal strengths, while building an understanding of unique ADHD strengths that may increase success.
ADHD symptoms will be reduced, but only as a by-product of this strength based approach.

How long do you typically work with someone to see change happen?

Change usually takes place right from the start.
This begins with a change in perspective and hopefulness, and quickly becomes changes in action, behaviour, and energy as the client begins to gain momentum from the Inside Out.
The total duration of a coach/client relationship very open ended.
About 30% of clients would feel 4-6 sessions is adequate to “get going”, often connecting again later, when life throws them a curve.
The bulk of my client base would continue with a 6 hour package following those initial 4-6 sessions.
About 10% probably continue on after that; often reducing to 30 minute check-ins, or some other reduced intensity.
